Sustainability

SBT are managed by the Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT).

Originally an agreement between Australia, Japan and New Zealand, the CCSBT now includes member countries, Korea, Taiwan and Indonesia, as well as cooperating non-members, Phillipines, South Africa and European Union.

Through underwater camera footage we are able to count each fish caught. This enables the fish population to be managed on a fish by fish level. Quotas are reviewed annually and as a result stocks are healthy, and compared to other tuna fisheries worldwide, the Australian SBT industry is arguably the most sustainable tuna fishery in the world.

Sekol is also certified in compliance with Friend of the Sea Criteria for Sustainable Fisheries.
